As a child, did you ever get your hands on a freshly sliced lemon, stick it in your mouth and suck it dry in an effort to impress the neighborhood kids? Ah, childhood. Try doing that today, and your (in)ability to eat a lemon might result in some funny looks. However, there’s no doubt about it: Lemons were then, just like they are now, a super food full of vitamin C, potassium and calcium.
They give your skin that ‘glow’ you depend on. They help you fight the common cold, and fever. Heck, they even offer a calming component that can help you ward off anxiety spells! Bring back this tangy fruit, and you’ll improve your health, wellness (and adult acne) in no time at all.
Be Calm
Some of the best soaps and shower gels are of the following: lemon zest, lemon verbena, and lemon-lime. It makes sense that a relaxing bath or shower scent comes from a fruit that is a natural relaxing enhancer. Studies have shown that lemon balm reduces stress and improves concentration. Doctors recommend keeping lemon essential oil around for expectant (but nauseous) moms—the lemon scent is so powerful it can beat morning sickness to a pulp—and because of it!
Be Fever-Free
If you grew up with a mother who always made you drink hot tea with lemon every time you got the sniffles or the chills, she may have done something right!
A Fat Blasting Smoothie RecipeThat’s because lemons are high in Vitamin C, and one lemon contains about 30 milligrams of the “C,” contributing to roughly 40 percent of your daily recommended intake. Squeeze a lemon into your iced or hot tea, and give your body an extra boost of illness prevention—essentially, “catching your cold” before it has a chance to spread!
Lemons—the tart, refreshing super food is great for glowing skin. But if drinking a glass of lemon water is too difficult to get down, squeeze it into a green smoothie. It’ll give you your lemon fix, and will be the perfect ingredient your morning juice has asked for! Here’s how to do it:
2 Cups of fresh spinach
1 Cup frozen fruit (pineapples, mango, strawberries and peaches are a great combination!)
½ Cup Orange juice
1 Cup Pure Coconut Water (with or without pulp)
1 teaspoon ground blueberry flaxseeds
1 Tablespoon of pure honey
½ medium sized lemon, squeezed
Blend up all the ingredients to desired smoothness. If it’s too thick, add a bit more coconut water. If you want to cut down on your sugar intake, reduce the amount of frozen fruit, or omit the orange juice and stick to coconut water, exclusively. If you’re never started your day with a green smoothie, you’re in for a natural energy boost that tastes amazing!
