Who said exercise has to be boring and repetitive? Whether you’re at home or at the office, there’s a good chance you can kill two birds with one stone, by crossing chores off of your list, and getting a strength training workout in! Here are some ways to exercise without even realizing you are.
Rake Those Leaves
Are you ready to lose up to 500 calories just raking leaves and sweeping your hardwood floors? Take an afternoon out of your day, and rake up the leaves that’s accumulated in your backyard, and lift them into bags (without taking shortcuts). Spending an afternoon lifting, sweeping, and lunging will help you to burn off last night’s casserole dinner—and give you a clean, clutter free backyard!
Take a Lap Around the Office During Your Break
How many times do you work out at work? If you don’t think you ever work out at work, it could be because you don’t even realize you are. Working in an office building may be the best place to get exercise, between the stairs you climb, the laps you make from your desk to the conference room to the copier, and walking from your office to your car. Get even more steps in by taking advantage of a much needed ten-minute break every 90 minutes, and take a brisk walk during your lunch break. It won’t just re-energize you for a busy afternoon ahead, but allow you to stay toned, and heart healthy.
Become a Do-It-Yourselfer!
Do you love making upgrades to your home, or planting flowers in your garden? If so, you may be ‘working out’ without even realizing it. Pulling out weeds, and planting fresh bulbs can allow you to burn a few hundred calories, while an afternoon of fixing the leaky toilet, vacuuming the house and rearranging the furniture can give you a killer strength training workout!
Walk Your Dog
Did you know that taking your dog on daily walks can burn up to 400 calories in an hour? Walking is fantastic exercise, by raising your heart beat, allowing you to de-stress, and taking in a natural source of vitamin D! If you want to burn extra calories, extend your walk by 30 minutes and increase the intensity (from walk to run to sprint, and back again). It’s never been easier to get your exercise in, and improve your health!
